The Christian County Historical Society and Museum’s Mission is to preserve, interpret and share the rich and varied heritage of Christian County.

Since our founding in 1965 the Museum’s board, along with its volunteers and friends, have sought to preserve and interpret Christian County’s history. Our mission is borne out through decades of collecting historical buildings, items, and literature to make them available for all to experience. Our intent is to continue this work and to explore new innovative ways to engage the community in our county’s history.

Please Come and Visit

Our museum campus is park-like; a very beautiful and peaceful place, perfect for a family picnic. Pack a lunch and enjoy it at a picnic table under one of our many shade trees. Our rest rooms are indoors, air conditioned and very clean.

And/or, enjoy our free campus tour. Our staff will guide you and your friends and family through each of our historic buildings, describing what we have and answering your questions.

We have one of the oldest remaining buildings in Christian County, plus we proudly offer the original Christian County Courthouse in which Abraham Lincoln practiced law twice each year for 12 years. There are also five other historic buildings that are sure to interest you, and we never charge admission fees.

Call us at 217-824-6922 for details and to confirm our hours of operation. We look forward to seeing you soon.
